Updated Video requirements and added note regarding the Intel Integrated chipset.

Hardware Recommendations

  • 1GB RAM
  • 600MB Hard disk space

Compatible Operating Systems

  • Windows
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista 32-bit
  • Windows Vista 64-bit
  • Windows 7 32-bit
  • Windows 7 64-bit

NOTE: The Intel Integrated chipset that is found on many notebook, netbook, and older machines has proven to be troublesome when trying to run Alice 3.x. Some higher-end Vista machines have also had difficulties. Decreasing hardware acceleration  or decreasing color resolution (form 32 bit to 16 bit) has sometimes been helpful. See also the note below on updating video drivers.

Mac

  • Mac OS X 10.4 and later

Linux

Alice for Linux has been successfully tested on the following distributions.  If you are able to test it on something not on the below list, please let us know your findings!

Alice requires Java.  If you do not have it installed on your Linux box, you will need to do so.  Java can be downloaded here.

    • Ubuntu
    • Red Hat

Video Requirements

A very frequent cause for problems users of Windows machines encounter when attempting to run Alice 3 are out of date video drivers for older machines. This is often seen when a red-screen occurs in the Alice run-time window when the Run button is clicked. See the following link for instructions on updating the video drivers of your machine
