  • Unable to rename methods on the Mac OS X versions of Alice 2.3 -- Press <control> + mouse-click on the methods tile to be able to rename the event. This is legacy from when Mac OS only had a 1 button mouse. We will work on fixing this.

  • Tutorial Related
    • The fourth tutorial in Alice 2.x, page 19 (adding the beach chair into the scene), shows an error, even when the chair is added correctly. It is possible to bypass the error message by clicking on next in the tutorial navigation window, and continuing through the rest of the tutorial.
    • On Page 69 of the Penguin Tutorial, if you click on the black space above and below the picture, Alice throws an error
    • Starting tutorials with the Properties or Functions tab in focus in the World's details will cause the tutorials to break

  • All versions of Alice 2.3. When clipboards act like rabbits: -- Under investigation

It seems that when one creates a new world in Alice, and increases the number of clipboards in Preferences -> Seldom Used, the right thing happens, initially. But if in the same session (in other words, without quitting Alice), if the user creates a new world, the number of clipboards available in that world becomes by (number of clipboards from the previous world + number of clipboards from the first world - 1).

In other words, I start a world, and increase the number of available clipboards to 4. I finish my work in that world, and decide to start a new world, or open a previously saved world, I will still have my four clipboards, but then Alice automatically gives me three more clipboards, so in this world I now have 7 clipboards. I then decide to open a third world, Alice gives me three more clipboards, so now I will have 10.

No idea why Alice is doing this, but we will certainly look at it.

  • Deleting an object from an Alice world that is in a list -- Under investigation

If there is an object on a list and the object is deleted, then Alice has an unknown error that won't go away (even after you say ok). The only way to get rid of it is to terminate the Alice process (force kill) in which you lose any unsaved work.

  • Using the File menu: Export Video command does not always work -- Under investigation
    •  There is a file menu option for exporting an Alice world to video. This option works well if there are no sound clips in the animation. Unfortunately with sound, our exporter does not recognize that an animation may be over, because the background music may still be playing. For example, if I have a 45 second animation, but I am using as background music a 3 minute and 15 second sound clip, then our exporter will want to record all 3 minutes and 15 seconds. We are working on resolving this problem at the present time.

  • Sound-related
    • Alice can play most but not all mp3 and wav files

  • Export as a web page-related:
    • Export as a web-page menu item should be disabled as we have to determine the correct set of 3D Graphics libraries and plugins for browsers to support the display of Alice worlds

  • Miscellaneous:
    • Alice does not handle large worlds (in terms of hard disk space) well
    • Alice gradually slows down after continued use

  • Event-related:
    1. Create a new event "Let the mouse move <list> and create a new list containing the ground
    2. Delete the ground object
